Octane segfault on boot

Unread postby holgrrr » Thu May 10, 2007 2:20 am

Hi everybody!
I'm currently running into some weird problems with an Octane (hardware specs attached) which I recently added to my "hardware zoo" ;-)

I installed Irix 6.5.29f on it, which worked fine from CD - but after the initial reboot after the installation it crashes with a segfault:

PANIC: KERNEL FAULT
PC: 0xa800000020369d4 EP:0xffffffffffffbc48
EXC: Code: 128, 'Software detected SEGV'
Bad addr: 0x3e8, cause: 0x8<CE=0

Any guesses anyone?
I'm currently a bit "desperate", as the systems tests complete and show no errors and my search didn't point me the right direction...

Any help appreciated - thanks a lot in advance!
Best wishes,
Holger

Hardware:
Octane
300Mhz R12000SC
1,5 GB RAM
SI Graphics
9 GB SCSI harddisk

Hi Holger,
Have you tried different options on install?
If you have another SGI... can you mount the drive in it and read the syslog file..??

Good luck.

Problem "solved":

The SI was broken.
This came rather unexpected as it "survived" the self-test...

Replaced it with an ESI I could "borrow" from another Octane, now everything is working again!

But thanks a lot for your help!

Best whishes,
Holger
