I've wanted a monitor to watch my CCTV without leaving my desk but I didn't want to use one of the multiple displays I already have because running it 24/7 will either nuke the backlights or burn the tube in. You know, so I can get at least an idea how many federal agents are at the door before they bust it down. ;)

Finally however I found a JVC TM-9U in the trash at work with a CRAZY number of hours on it. The contrast is awful, the screen is dim and even with the color switched off everything has either a blue or a purplish tint to it but who cares? I just need to display an image.
So I strapped it to the underside of one of my shelves.

It's a shame I can't control the PTZ from this. All the solutions I've found so far are for controlling multiple cameras and have all sorts of jazz I don't need.

After plunking down $200 for ONE GODDAMN CABLE I spent today reassembling my Sony PMW-EX3 that has been partially dismantled for a little over a year as I rebuilt the broken upper handle assembly and found a replacement to one goddamn cable (see above $200 cable)

The process took six hours because there was a lot of reinstalling things from memory and making things fit properly because there were a few extra screws and metal plates from the handle repair. It looks great, however I don't have either a battery or an AC adapter and I'm looking over the schematic right I can't just fool it with 12v off the bench (or so it seems as I did and aside from a small current draw it's not responding to the power switch), so I don't know yet if it's actually fixed.

Oh cool. There was one last update to iTunes 10. Version 10.7

Today as part of my annual "pull all the ipods out and charge them" event I went around applying this last update to machines that I still run iTunes on because 11 and after are arguably inferior. Sorry, I like my playlists.
While I was at it I also docked and did a restore, firmware update and reload of each unit. There were several firmware updates I guess I never caught before.

Making new cards is never pointless if they serve a purpose or seek to replace rare and expensive vintage cards.

Nerdiest thing I can think of is get two more cards and throw them up on the lines like a pair of old shoes.

Damn, that's a good one. Could always do a pair of Beats headphones or some android phones hooked together with an aux cable or something. :D

Still got a lot of work to do, but come a long way. Sorry I can't let the cat out of the bag quite yet but it's card for my octane/tezro.


If anyone has experience writing PCI drivers for Irix, I'd be very interested to hear more info. RIght now my plan is to develop a WIn32 driver first.
