Hi all,

Just packaged another tool, this time it's Mercurial, the distributed version control system (http://mercurial.selenic.com/). It's just been moved to /beta so you should be able to download it now.

It built pretty cleanly apart from a couple of minor patches, which I have submitted upstream and should make it into the next stable release.

I've tested it with my checked-out projects here on both my Fuel and Octane2, all seem to work fine. I've tested both local-only repositories, as well as pushing/cloning/pulling from remote HTTP sites. Only problem I have found is that accessing SSL-enabled repositories produces warnings, due to the old version of Python (2.5). Apart from that, it seems to work great - and the projects do seem to get checked out, it just warns you it can't check the certificate.

Anyway, if anyone could give this package a quick check, I'd appreciate it. Any comments / criticism etc. all gratefully received :)

Thanks,

-Mark

Thank you, it's a very useful tool. Seems to work fine so far. You tagged all for default installation, this is probably a bit too much, on the other hand it's a developer tool, so we probably want the source by default :-)

Great, glad it's working for you! I use it on all my systems here - not just for code, but also to manage config files. It's great for managing things like /etc, and you can also set up a cron job to go through each night and push changes to a master repository somewhere.

I don't know if it's in the wiki or not but there is sort of a tradition about what is marked default and what is not. It may not be the best tradition but it's really nice to have what you expect to have happen happen rather than something you didn't expect to have happen happen ... if you get my drift.

One problem with the product name, enough for me to vote reject the tardist.

Most nekoware is lower case on the Product name (even better would be "neko_mercurial" in there but no others do that) and "Distributed Version Control System" is a description. "Mercurial" is the product name.

Agreed, and thanks for the feedback. I'll get a new version built and uploaded then.

Just uploaded a new version to /incoming. I fixed the package name and subsystems selected by default. I'll watch /beta and when it gets moved over, I'll update this post.

New package should be in /beta now, if you want to give it another try...
