Got rid of a couple older versions I had in the path, been using this for two weeks or so now. It rars and unrars archived rar files. What more is there ? Doesn't seem to have any problems, one request to move to /current ...

Of course there's more. Are .rar archives displayed with the proper icon, and does that do anything useful when clicking on it?

Icons ? What's that ? I just type < unrar e xxx > and bob's yer uncle :P

I'll give the icon method a try tomorrow. Cool that you made it graphical like that :D

Wull heck, Albert ... yes, the rar files show an archive icon with .rar instead of .tar written on them, which is nice but I probably assumed that was just an SGI thing. But when you double-click the icon it opens a winterm :
Code:

UNRAR 4.00 beta 4 freeware      Copyright (c) 1993-2011 Alexander Roshal

Testing archive /usr/people/wonky/test/pics.rar

Testing     pic                                                       OK
Testing     pic/PICT0007.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/PICT0021.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/PICT0033.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/PICT0053.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/PICT0066.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/PICT0069.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/PICT0072.JPG                                          OK
Testing     pic/Thumbs.db                                             OK
All OK

Spiffy !

The trouble with making things behave so native is that some of us never notice that they didn't come that way. Very cool :P

While looking, I also noticed that whoever did exiftags also made a nice icon for the applications. And flac, too.

I should get my glasses checked .... definite vote to go to current.

There's a few more things you can check for in fresh nekoware packages: The relnotes, patches and dist files should actually match the version of tha package.

Code:
unrar -ver

UNRAR 4.00 beta 4 freeware      Copyright (c) 1993-2011 Alexander Roshal
The tardist version matches the one mentioned in the release notes, as do the .idb and .spec files (in the distribution), and the name of the patch file also matches (tho I couldn't find a specific mention of the version inside the file).

.rar files displayed the correct icon after the installation of neko_unrar-4.1.3, and the program functioned without error during the tests I ran.

I'd second the recommendation to promote neko_unrar-4.1.3 to /current.

Ok with files ~300MB. .rar files displays the correct icon only in standard user, not in the root account.

unrar_votes:=unrar_votes+1;

That's weird, since the file type rule db is global. What icon does it display instead?

I did a new test. With 6.5.30 everything was OK in all accounts. Then I returned to 6.5.21 and one archive .rar showed the usual 'unkown archive' icon. I decided to rename the file and capture an image. After rename it the icon refreshed to the rar icon. So now seems that everything is working good.
