First, a question: What model(s) of machine do you plan to use these CDs on?

SGI Software Library Irix 6.5 advanced workstation
Product number SG-SC4-AWE-6.5 Rev L
This is a full release of IRIX 6.5 bundled with additional, optional software aimed at workstations, though I don't know exactly which release number corresponds to "Rev L". My guess is that it is at least 6.5.12, possibly something higher.
In general, SGI only sold/sells full releases of IRIX 6.5.x bundled with additional software aimed at either workstations or servers. While the Advanced Workstation Environment is/was targeted at workstations (Indys, Octanes, O2s, Onyxs, Fuels, and Tezros), it also can be used to perform a clean, full installation of IRIX on server machines, like Challenges and Origins. Likewise, the Advanced Server Environment can be used to set up workstation machines. More information about the AWE/ASE bundles is on the nekochan wiki at

However, Overlay CDs can be used in combination with CDs from a "full" release to install IRIX from scratch. For example, if you have an IRIX 6.5.10 full release and an IRIX 6.5.22 Overlay, you can combine the CD sets to perform a clean installation of IRIX 6.5.22 without first installing 6.5.10. SGI Software Library Irix 6.5
Product number 814-0544-008
Searching the net for the product number reveals that this is a "Hot Mix" CD from 1998. Hot Mix CDs contain demos and trial versions of software from SGI and third parties. They do
not include IRIX itself.
