Hello guys!

I have a very stupid question but I was searching around and I could not find and appropriate answer . I am just looking for a nice clock application to display the time in my IRIX desktop. I turns out that I do not really like the one that comes with the operating system .

fwiw, you can right click the face of the IRIX clock (/usr/sbin/clock) to open the IRIX calendar app or set an alarm, a feature that the out-of-the-box version of the IRIX xclock (/usr/bin/X11/xclock) doesn't have. You can also make 'clock' slightly easier to find on a crowded desktop by opening it with the clock dot command. If the shipped-with-IRIX version of xclock is more to your liking, man xclock will give you a fairly long list of display/size/function options.

Remember xclock is fully configurable via ~/.Sgiresources. It can be digital, analog, border-less, any color or font, omnipresent, always on top ....

There are lots of options, but here's a few:

xclock*Background: light grey
xclock*Border: navy blue
xclock*Highlight: cornflower blue
xclock*Hands: slate blue
xclock*update: 1

or:
xclock*analog: false

I did not know that xclock was so configurable. I will try to mess with it a little bit to see if I find a configuration I like. Thank you!

That config also works nicely for me! .

Now, I have another stupid question, is there anyway to load it when I login without seeing the icon of the opened application in the desktop? I mean, the icon that tells you that the clock is running, not the clock itself .

Almost forgot oclock. If you prefer a round or oval clock, oclock can also be configured with a number of appearance options - including the option of a transparent clockface.

If oclock isn't already in /usr/bin/X11, you may need to install the X11 Unsupported Gifts and Demos, which can be found inside the IRIX X11 Execution Environment (with 6.5.30 that'd be the first Overlay CD).

Motif is extremely configurable. Look up ".Xdefaults" and try a resource editor. I have "editres" here, maybe that comes standard with irix ? Then recondas* can direct you to the Techpubs SGI style guide which tell you how to change all the necessary settings.
