Everything from NASA is public domain (at least for US citizens.) It's in the legislation that initially set them up. "Technology Transfer" is a fraud and a shuck and totally illegal.
Of course, laws only count when it's the little people who break them. And nothing, I mean NOTHING is allowed to get between us and our worship of the god Mammon.
Americans really are that broke.
Morally and ethically, it's even worse than you think. Pretty soon the rich will start eating each other, since they've already devoured the middle class. Big war drums should start booming soon ... will people go for it this time ?
Should be interesting to watch - from a distance.

Seems you guys are rather fond of playing down America whenever you can. Of course, your respective countries are so much better off. Really?hamei wrote:PymbleSoftware wrote:Americans really are that broke.

Not too doing badly compared to a few countries but thanks for asking.

We have another 5 to 10 years before this country implodes to the extent of the fiscal woes in the US or Europe, we still have one of the lowest debt to GDP ratios around. I like the states, really I do, I've been there a handful of times, I just think they can do better than the current malaise.
I thought people might be interested in talking about the code ... but anyways..

I'm trying to imagine what a Firefly-inspired programming language would look like, and failing to come up with anything. Hopefully somebody else will provide an entertaining suggestion...PymbleSoftware wrote:... goes back to thinking about a compiler design for a new language and hums the firefly theme....

Presumably, it wouldn't be Staiteless.

She gave a talk at a comic-con type convention(1) in Australia, which wasn't that interesting as she wouldn't talk about Joss Whedon and cancelling of Firefly series or why the studio executives seemed intent on burying the series (2), except this quip: "Every time I join a series it gets cancelled...People think I am a jinx or something"... If she is a jinx, it might be Staiteless after all... and yes I get the joke, stateless.
Edits:
I just looked at the state library catalog, there is a book on compiler construction I thought might be interesting to read. The council library charges $7 for inter-library loans, return train fare to read it in the state library in the city is about $8, or I could just buy it on fleabay in another country for $8 including shipping to Australia.

1. Called Supernova or Supanova.
2. The TV series was shown at something like 11pm or 1am in Australia and never in the same time slot. Likewise they did very little to promote it in the States from what i read.

One time when I was in the US the house I was staying at had cable or something and there was not one but two NASA channels out of the what was it maybe (a) hundred(s) channels. Even the city local government body was televised on one channel discussing the amount for fines in a park situated no more than two blocks away, Governor Davis was trying to justify something on another channel and the Federal government Senate or House of Reps was on another channel debating a bill... and there was of course endless channels of rubbish.

I've been through hell attempting to port later versions of OpenCV in the past..
At first glance, I find these two NASA projects interesting...

Guys, please keep it friendly. You all know the take on political discussions. No need to take this off-topic.

Back to topic. My favourite book on compilers is http://www.amazon.com/Compiler-Design-C ... 019&sr=1-1 - for me, it's much more practical than the Dragon. Also, AFAIK, its source is still floating around somewhere...PymbleSoftware wrote:Edits:

Yes. China, India, Ruins of Washington, Austen Coates. Sooner than I expected, though. Good book, worth reading.
