The new iPhone...

While I'm rather ok with my iPhone 4, do you contemplate a switch to the just announced one?

I am an avid Iphone fan, yet do not really get the sense of awe. i am much more inclined to purchase the new blackberry at the moment.

for me too - I had the 3G for more than 2 years, and the 4 for one year - and happy with it!

well, and I have to admit: I'm glad, they presented a 4S and not a 5 - so I'm still somehow up to date :D

I'm still using my five year old Treo 700p! The call quality is terrific, and that's the most important thing for me. The only time I really get the urge to get something new is when I try to take pictures or video under low light conditions. Even the Treo's ancient Blazer web browser is serviceable, though it's a bit like running Firefox 2 on IRIX. When I run across a page Blazer can't render, the Opera Mini browser usually solves the problem, though it's a bit slower, and the Gmail Java client works fine, too. :)

All that said, I probably will upgrade to a new phone in the next few months. Since I mostly use Macs, I'll probably go with whatever the latest and greatest iPhone is, as much to ensure proper contact/calendar syncing as anything else.

I still have a ways to go on my iPhone 4 contract, but I like the idea of the GSM+CDMA radios. Can't stand the atrocious audio quality of GSM even when I get a decent AT&T signal, but would like to be able to use my own phone when traveling just by dropping in a SIM. Of course I'd probably have to buy an factory unlocked version, ouch...

No iPhone for me, I don't subscribe to the closed ecosystem.

Fortunately the option isn't iPhone or death.

Totally OT, I know. But out of curiosity, your smart-phone is what?

I use a motorola a45eco. it was free because my wireless carrier said my old one which I loved dearly (nokia 6010) would stop working on their network "real soon now". that one was also free. it works. I'm not sure who to blame for my intermittent hands-free trouble, motorola or mazda... and the music playback is crazy. (shut car off, music starts playing through speaker phone. fish phone out of bag to shut music off) etc... the motorola is halfway decent but there are literally dozens of little bugs like this that make me hate it.

I need a smartphone with an ant+ transceiver for my senior project. So I am torn between using an ipod with an add-on ant+ transceiver (bluetooth is maybe possible but too power hungry and bulky). Or using droid, which is much easier to use with ant+... so long as you buy the right hardware, get the right software version, and hope that no updates remove functionality down the road.

I have an older 1GHz ARM Cortex phone with a FM radio that I can listen to ABC ClassicFM at work, especially the morning interviews (surgeons with some kind of breakthrough, award wining physicists, novelists, etc) that contains a better screen than the iPhone for watching movies on with a 32Gb CF card, I can program in C++ (although the API is at times worse than Windows).
Oh and as another downside it runs flash in the webkit based browser.

I've had this phone and an iPhone at the same time and meh, its just something for people to ring up and annoy me on while I am trying to debug on it. People who get caught up in platform wars need to get a life.
