Unless I misunderstood, he's now said twice that he is not using CDE, though perhaps it would be worthwhile for him to share a screenshot of his desktop.

@radar - to do so, use the "screenshot" command, or poke around the icon collection for "media recorder." The file will be saved in SGI RGB format, which most of us here will be able to view. Alternately, just take a snapshot with a camera phone. ;)

I'll bet you it's some mongrel mixup of everything ;-)

Btw, screenshot is from freeware, so from a stock install mediarecorder is probably the safest bet; it'll be in the toolchest menus (or xwd, but that could be a bit of a can of worms...)

The radar guy wrote:Thank you for the hint... but the F@*%ing clock does not close!! I tried left Alt+space, tried left Alt+F4, but nothing happens... To kill the damn thing from the console requires to know the PID associated with it

this is because you can have multiple processes running with the same name. I like to use the command 'killall' if you only have one instance of a program running and want it all gone. I also like 'top' to find job names and pids. It sounds like you already know 'man'

I would recommend you get a beginner's unix book and also read 'the unix hater's handbook' to help understand why unix just does what it does sometimes.

I think we should add the radar to the O2 hardware aggregator :D.

Well I know its an old post - but it may help someone in the future:

To move a borderless app in Irix twm click on it press Alt-F7 and move wherever you like. To kill it - place pointer over it and hold ESC for ~2sec

You are the first person I've heard of who uses TWM on IRIX. Not that it's a bad window manager, it's just not one of the biggies anymore.

I used to use twm/vtwm every day for many years (a long time ago), but that ESC-to-kill trick doesn't ring a bell. Neat!
