Rare, Vintage, WOW Computers...

Unread postby maaarcooose » Wed Feb 16, 2011 12:36 am

Read this the other day and I thought you could all relate.

I find it fascinating how many people list stuff as a rare item, that in all honesty is as common as dust.

Doing that Lone Wolf thing. Without the ninja killing and revenge.

Mac Book Pro 13" Running Lion.
All SGI's now in the hands of people that will use them more.

I misread the thread title and thought this was going to be a list of past computers that used to be able to play World of Warcraft. ;)

That reminds me of my C64II which is boxed in the original boxes at home along with some games and the usual extras (competition pro joystick, 5,25" disk drive). But hey, I still got my first computer... the ALDI package of the C16 complete with the Commodore Datassette and some Kingsoft crap games. ;)

Strangely enough I never bought an Amiga. When the time was right, we already had an 286 at home featuring a Hercules graphics and 20MB HDD. It was upgraded with a Tseng ET3000 VGA card and a color 14" monitor for my personal game enjoyment some time in the real early 90s. Later on I bought a 468DX2 with all the bells and whistles (Dialmond Stealth Pro VLB with I think 1MB VRAM, Mediavision PAS16 with SCSI interface and -by standards of 1993- the awesome amount of 8 MB RAM and 340MB HDD space).

Getting back to the topic, I think many of the L@@K, RARE, VINTAGE guys just don't know any better. I guess some drag out some old gear they have some more or less fond memories of and post it online, just like the gear mentioned above. I know most of it is pretty common, you know it too but does the average Joe User? Aside from "normal" misjudgement sure there are the idiots looking for some quick cash. Actually I'd rather have them post their stuff at ebay than have them trash it right away.

Edit: Thinking of the C64 I probably should play Pirates! for some hours/days when I come home next time. Also, the 486 should still have my copy of Wing Commander 2 installed... lost the disks, never finished the game. :)
