Hello altogether,

I just IRIX 6.5.30 on my new Octane2 from eBay after years of abstinence from this beautiful machines, I worked with Indys and Indigo2s at the university.

Now I have some questions:
1. Not all of the patches are free to download at the SGI website. Is there any _legal_ way to get this patches? Like applying to a developer plus contract or what ever this is called today?
2. After applying the latest compiler patches the dbx debugger was remove, I read was been moved to the WorkShop product. After installing the overlays the development foundation is no longer usable, the systems tells me the development foundation has not the right version. Is there a way to you any debugger (dbx *g*) again?

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards,
Christoph

Somebody should be along with a more helpful link, but you could start here: Nekoware Main Page

There are a huge number of packages within Nekoware, including gcc/gdb/etc.

Hi Christoph,
The developer program has been discontinued. To get on the program you had to have a company that is trading (which I have) and go through credit checks and other corporate nonsense.. I had full access to supportfolio and IRIX patches but sgi/rackable kicked me and everyone out of the program..I asked them several times and only way is mega dollars for a full support contract on a Linux system. The local office here tell me there is nothing that they can do. I did grab quite a few patches while I had it but there is a lot that I missed. There is a bit of a black market in patches if you discuss it with other SGI fans privately outside the public areas of nekochan. Rackable are doing everything possible to kill IRIX while still trying to leverage and trade off the goodwill of the SGI (and to a lesser extent IRIX) brand, just talk to your local SGI office and see what I mean.

R.

Thanks Regan. Knowing I couldn't help with the patches, I figured I could at least help him get a debugger back as an interim step...

Thank you very much for your answers!

I will definitely install a lot of the nekoware stuff, I have worked with linux through the years and know most of the stuff. Nevertheless I like to get a complete IRIX system

I am going to talk to SGI to see what they can do, but of course I do not expect anything, just to have it tried.
