I'm trying to revive an o2k deskside. I used my install tools cd to go in and clear the root password in /etc/shadow (actually /root/etc/shadow from the miniroot shell), then when I reboot and try to login as root, I get the error:

Code:
UX:login: ERROR: Your password has been expired for too long

So, where do I go from here? I can go back into the miniroot, but I don't know what file marks a password as expired, and what file disables expiring password entirely.

thanks,

Geof

If you remove the password so you're able to log in, you might try checking the system date. Had an experience where an eBay IO6G reset my system date by several decades <but i don't recall if it caused issues with the password>.

Found the problem:

"/etc/default/login" had the setting "IDLEWEEKS=2" which amazingly can lock out root as well.

So anyway, the plastics got crunched on sipping, but this looks to be a pretty nice config, with some licenses on it for CXFS, MIPSpro, and other stuff. I'll post more when I get it networks and can do some poking around.

I think that you probably would be able to login as single-user. I've never had this happen on UNIX, but on OVMS things that will lock you out of the general system don't apply to user SYSTEM on OPA0:, and I'd think that UNIX would have the same safeguards.
