hello,
this coming after the news that Oracle closed Solaris, but is there any place one could download the old versions of sunOS and Solaris for SPARC, and are these versions now closed as well? I'd like to get ahold of these and archive them while I can so I can still use my SPARCstations in the future with their original software...

Solaris / SunOS is not free to redistribute. Your best luck is eBay for the media.

Officially the licenses go up in smoke as soon as the machine is transferred, unless the transfer is done by Sun or on of "a small number of resellers allowed to do license transfers".

I suspect many people have it archived, and the media is still transferable (I think, though with copyright the way it is now who knows).

Oracle has only change the license to a trail license, why not try it out while you can on both Sparc and AMD after the 90 days you just have to delete it and next time download it again ...

For Solaris 10. Solaris 10 used to have a "download it and use it as long as you want with our blessing" license, with the caveat that it wasn't transferable. Solaris 9 had a "free for educational use" license, and Solaris 8 had a "free license for noncommercial use on uniprocessor-capable machines". Solaris 7 had a $95 program, but I can't remember the details. None of them were transferable, and they didn't apply to other releases of Solaris/SunOS.
