Missing IP numbers..

I got to wondering .. What happened to IP1, IP2, IP3, IP4, IP5, IP8, IP11, etc.... ???

Several of the IP numbers you mention did exist: http://old.sgistuff.net/hardware/tables.php#ip

The rest probably never made it to a real product. Which makes you wonder what happened between IP35 (Fuel) and IP53 (Tezro).

That thing with the SW/HW IPs had confused me a little. If someone wants to clean up the table and fill in the blanks..

I have messed with the wiki topic a little, I hope that is it an improvement..

I noticed something...

For a certain range of time, even numbered machines are always "lower-end of the era", ie workstations as apposed to servers, which explains some of the gaps at least. Some missing odd numbers are times when they designed more workstations than servers.

Anyway, this might have been already noted there but the "Hardware Developer Handbook, Release 2.0" gives "HP1" as processor ID for the Indigo, not IP12 [as per Gerhard's beautiful page] - but maybe it's a typo?

Yup, that's due to the last ')' missing from the URL when clicking on it in the text. Add a ')' to it in your browser's address line and you'll get there - or try this: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/index.php/IP_Numbers(Module_and_system_names). Apparently, URLs with brackets don't quite work without the 'url' tags.

Had a look at an R3000 mainboard and it says "HP1 assy xxx-xxxx-xxx". But I know for a fact IRIX calls it IP12.

The codename for the Indigo was 'Hollywood', maybe that has something to do with it?

HP1 -> Indigo R3000 (IP12)
HP2 -> Indigo R4000 (IP20).

HP1 is all the major components of an IP12 (PI 4D/3x) (minus VME interface) in a different layout. HP2/IP20 has no siblings. I think the only reason that they kept the "HP" number was for historical reasons. HP1 was the first time that they "rearranged" a system board, so perhaps that's the reason they did the different naming. Later (Indy) they gave it a different IP number (essential components of an IP22, but labeled IP24).
