Shipping outside of the US.

How insane is this??

120525638094 SGI PCA IP31 BOARD:PIMMR12KS 030-1423-002 REV H-CC 1 US $29.99 US $29.99
Subtotal: $29.99
Shipping and handling via Standard Int'l Flat Rate Shipping: $125.00

Total: $154.99

I recall paying roughly $300 to ship an entire Octane2, and just over $500 to ship a Mac Pro, with a 23 inch LCD etc.
Somehow I get the feeling that Ebay sellers are either scaly , or shipping companies are opportunistic.

That's why I always ask the seller about shipping cost *before* I buy, and compare their quotation to what the USPS website quotes based on (guessed) weight.

Then I can always decide to forget about the deal, or use a US shipping address.
Now this is a deep dark secret, so everybody keep it quiet :)

It's not really insane, at least from the seller. He states in the auction description that he only ships by UPS (ok, you may discuss this, but at least it's indicated in the auction description). If you get a quote on the UPS website, I guess you'll get the same amount.
In fact I just won an auction from the same seller, and the shipping quote I got myself on ups website was roughly the same as the final shipping charges I got from him...

In the US I really liked UPS. Overseas I hate them with a passion. Something is rotten in the state of denmark with their overseas operations.

It really sucks the USPS dropped their international economy surface shipping. Literally a slow boat to China (or elsewhere) but cheap even for relatively large, heavy items. I'm complained to them more than once since they dropped it a few years ago.
