iPad
Just heard from the Limbaugh show that there is a new apple gadget out. Anybody thinking of getting one?
After test driving some different apple laptops I've realized they don't give a rats ass about build quality... though they are very inexpensive. Not my style, so I will pass.
The rumor mill of a apple tablet computer I've been hearing about since the day of the newton. Good to see they finally put one out for the gadget freaks to drool over.
One of my favorite machines is a symbol handheld with 8" touchscreen (really more of a souped up palm than a traditional tablet/laptop) and pentium M. Waterproof, shockproof, has USB so you can easily attach a KB and mouse... I am a fan of the form factor, but I still haven't seen the iPad at apple.com... is it more iphone or macbook?

Re: iPad
I was hoping for more of a PC type device... IE the exact same form factor as the iPad but can have mathematica, MS office, virtualbox, and bluetooth wifi and USB connections, with the latest OSX... with a software setup like that, Apple could charge twice as much

Re: iPad
Hmm...Starting at $499 for 16 GB WiFi models, $629 for WiFi+3G.
Re: iPad
Another hmm... in the US, the 3G service $30/month unlimited access, with no annual contract needed.
Re: iPad
That would be very interesting, indeed.porter wrote:I want it to have ISO-14443A/B....

You know anybody who can network eight Connection Machines and de-bug two million lines of code for what I bid this job? Because if you can, I'd love to see him try."

Seems a little pricey to me.
For that price there are more interesting devices with ARM processor coming.
For example Lenovo Skylight is 499$, and includes keyboard for the same price.
