Just wondering if anyone has done it, update the leopard to snow leopard and run it on 64bit?

you can run 64bit with compatible hardware without any problems as long as the kexts you need are available as 64bit version.
however for the most things 32bit is just fine and as with 10.5 you can run 64bit apps anyway.

I run my 2009 iMac with 64Bit 10.6 which was an upgrade install from 10.5. I had to edit the com.apple.Boot.plist and append the correct option for it though (default boot is 32bit unless its an XServe).

Edit: Sorry, misread. I have no upgraded my 10.5 hackintosh to 10.6. I read there was problems and it was better to do straight 10.6 installs. I read that 64bit works just fine though.

I've been on a hack since 10.4. Depending on the hardware, it can be easy or a nightmare. If your someone like me, who will not be satisfied until everything works 100% then be prepared for a challenge. Since most of us have *nix skills and enjoy tech, you'll probably find it fun like I do.

Currently some of the most compatible motherboards are by Gigabyte. I use a EP45-UD3P. Here is a thread I maintained for 10.5. Can't be used for SL, but the level of effort is similar. I do still recommend the hardware though, it has been rock solid and very compatible. I run it in 64bit mode.

yes, gigabyte board, intel chipset and nvidia gfx are the best choice.
vanilla kernel, all gfx features and 64bit ...
