Curious if anyone has done this with one of the freebie boxes.

I've done the reverse to use a playstation with a VGA monitor.

no reason why it wouldn't work. I have a samsung something or other and it can output 480 composite or svideo just fine in addition to HD.

You still need the remote to change the channel and volume. Maybe you could make a serial controller and software for that :idea:
