Sort of peripheral to SGI but still, engineering was one of their big markets ... really interesting history of the early players in computer-aided design and manufacturing. The Computervision story was illustrative ... but at least they tried, unlike a certain famous brand we all know :D

Very nice. Glad to see such a comprehensive history of an often-ignored market segment.

This site has a similar history of the 3D animation marketplace. Talks about early developments and pioneering companies and universities. Some of the links don't work but it's lots of fun to read.
