i'm finally getting off my ass and clearing the basement out for construction of my studio. i've been getting some new gear to add to the stuff i've accumulated over the years and i know some others have similar interests. thought i would share my gear list and see if anyone could offer some alternatives.

off the top of my head i remember these: (i'll add the others when i catalog them)

Mix and outboard:
Alesis HD24 (plus 4 black face ADATs)
Alesis BRC
Behringer 3282 (32x8x2)
Eventide H3000 D/SE
Eventide H949
Electrix Warp factory
Lexicon MPX-110
Behringer Virtualizer PRO DSP2024P
Behringer Modulizer PRO DSP1224P
Behringer TUBE COMPOSER T1952 (electro-harmonix 12ax7's)
Behringer COMPOSER PRO-XL MDX2200
Ashley dual compressor/limiter
Aphex Aural Exciter
Antares AMM1
Antares ATR-1
Loft 401
ART Proverb
ART DR2
Korg DRV-1000
etc...

Synths:
Oberheim OB-12
Oberheim Matrix-6
Oberheim Matrix-6 (rack)
Kawai K1rII (rack)
Kawai K3m (rack)
Roland D110
Alesis QS6
Alesis HR-16
Ensoniq FIZMO
Ensoniq EPS-16+ (with SCSI)
Korg M1
Korg Electribe-ER
Korg Radias (rack)
E-MU E6400 Ultra sampler (rack)
E-MU III/XP sampler (rack)
Kurzweil K2000R sampler (rack) (sold)
Kurzweil K2500R sampler (rack) (new!)
Waldorf Micro-Q (rack)
Clavia Nord Lead (rack)
Access Virus C (rack)
Novation Supernova (rack)
Yamaha DX21
Yamaha TX812 (rack)
Casio CZ-1000

I'm looking for a serious reverb like Lexicon PCM 96 or a Kurzweil KPS-8 and a nice set of monitors; JBL6328P.

Eventually i get a better board. i started with a Ramsa 16x4x2 but the sliders need replacement, and the boards doesn't have enough channels. perhaps i'll use it for a keyboard mixer. (gave it away eventually. needed the space when i cleaned out the basement).

so, any recommendations gladly accepted! or show what you got too :)

i loved the ob8. my friend had one and i wrote a lot of tunes with it in the 80's. nothing seems to have the sound these days although it's close.

do you have any of the roms for the k2000? i was looking at the orchestral rom. i have a ton of cd's for the emu's.

Yeah, the OB8 is fantastic - had a lot of fun with it. It had a bad -5v power rail when I first got it (hence it was pretty cheap); after a local tech replaced the LM723 regulators and 5v rectifier it was good to go.

My K2000RS has the orchestral ROM installed (in there when I got it).

@neko - what do you think of the rom? i really like orchestral pads. i was thinking of getting the rom. also what sample cd's do you recommend? i just got this sampler and i'm shopping for stuff.

how do the two matrix 1k's compare to the ob8? i find even two of the matrix 6's layered with the same patches still sound thin compared to other boards, even the ob12 :)

edit: oh i just noticed you have an ex-800, that was one of my very first synths. it had a kind of pop every forth note or so. but it made cool sounds. i wrote a sequencer in forth on the atari st to play it :)

@itsmeonly - how's that casio VZ? i always liked the kooky sounds of the CZ's. there's a VZ on ebay right now i have my eye on. the VZ looks like a great source of wackiness!

It's one hell of a bitch, to be honest- would probably beat the crap out of SY/TG77 if not some serious design flaws which make it challenging to program (so to speak). For the sound: it's gritty, it's full of aliasing - if you're into some lo-fi, industrial noises, it's for you. It can do some nice and full pads though.

Here's my review: http://rambo.id.uw.edu.pl/gear.html?nr=21

If you listen to Peace by Piece my worn-out Peerless power hack saw is featured in the background of a few songs :)

I've got a roland jp-8000. I'm planning on a malletkat (I'd like a real marimba but that's out of the question)

Also a yamaha drum kit. For recording it i've got this microphone built into a monitor that I use and that is fed into a deskpro. Real Hi-fi stuff ;) Gets the point across at least. Typically if somebody needs something recorded for real they have pro recording stuff for me to use.

I haven't experimented with the orchestral patches in depth, but the ROM seems solid from what I've messed with. I don't own any sample CDs, but have downloaded a number of patch diskettes from Sweetwater that had some great sounds:

Yeah, they're pretty thin - that's the reason I picked up the Lexicon :)

Very cool! My main reason for getting the EX-800 was to do a Moog Slayer mod on it - just never got around to actually doing it.
