Cool software w/benchmarking

Unread postby Oskar45 » Thu Feb 02, 2006 6:14 am

If you like, visit  http://www.pims.math.ca/knotplot/download/ to install it on your box. It includes a benchmarking facility; I'd be interested in the results for your machine. Mine (albeit done about one year ago with an older version) are:
    Computer: SGI Fuel
    Operating System: IRIX 6.5.25
    spin A: 24.02
    spin B: 8.01
    relax A: 96.36
    relax B: 96.36
    env A: 96.36
    env B: 32.01
    env C: 48.10
    env D: 47.59
    CPU B: 758
    OpenGL: 1.2
    Renderer: VPRO/B/128
    CPU/Memory: 700Mhz/MIPS R16000

hinv for my Fuel was posted before  viewtopic.php?t=8366

Oops, seems I have missed that test...

BTW, you might want to check  http://www.colab.sfu.ca/KnotPlot/benchmarks.html for a comparison with other machines.

the sgi is off at the moment... but i was trying this on my peecee.... do you run each bench mark individually then write down the score? or was there a benchmark log file or something generated???

my relax a is about 340-350 :)

I guess you have to write it down because all tests need a while to stabilize and there is always some oscillation in the values - pick your best

(And take a look at the benchmark site I'd mentioned in my previous post).

Ok, I'd re-run /all/ the benchmarks and this time I got the following:

    spin A 25.04
    spin As 2.50
    spin B 7.51
    spin Bs 1.10
    spin C 18.76
    spin Cc 15.02
    relax A 75.27
    relax B 75.27
    relax C 65.74
    relax D 25.07
    env A 75.23
    env B 37.54
    env C 75.41
    env D 75.83
    env E 18.37
    misc A 100.12
    CPU B 625
    CPU Bc 983
    CPU Ba 624

Except that I'm running now under 6.5.28, everything else is as it was specified in my initial post in this thread. The reason I'd originally posted only a subset of results is simply that Knotplot's benchmark site mentioned above doesn't actually provide for /all/ of the tests...

Anyway, I'd be grateful if you guys who already reported results for their boxes would take out a few minutes once more, re-run /all/ tests and post their findings again...

Thanx for your patience.

Actually, there is...just let it stabilize and, granted - it's harder to read, you should the result in the lower left corner as well...

Just checked the site mentioned in my initial post of the current thread for a newer version. Sadly, the IRIX binaries are "temporarily unavailable" (as are the Solaris, BTW). Seems another great stuff doesn't care any more about us. Glad I'd downloaded an older version some time ago... :)

Hello,

The SGI version of KnotPlot has been unavailable for sometime. If there is interest, I will compile the latest version and put it at the download site.

all the best,
rob scharein

Hmm, you are KnotPlot's author, right - or am I mistaken? If yes, it's certainly a pleasure to have you around here! I'm running the Jan 24, 2005 version on my Fuel. Did you do any enhancements recently? Also,
maybe you might want to put the benchmark results posted in this thread on your benchmark page?

Please excuse me if I'm mistaken...
