I don't believe it! seamonkey runs perfectly, but yet again I'm stuck witht the same problem that I had with Mozilla: Every time is starts, it cannot see any existing profiles (even though they exist on disk) and has to create a new one ... which won't be seen the next time it is started.

I installed seamonkey into "/usr/local/lib" (as root) and symlinked "/usr/local/bin/seamonkey -> ../lib/seamonkey-1.0/seamonkey".

Then, as my (non-root) user I backed-up and removed my existing ".mozilla" and started seamonkey. I chose to Manage Profiles (rather than converting my Netscape4 profile) and then created a New Profile named "seamonkey". I confirmed that this was created on disk. I made some config changes, and exited seamonkey with File -> Quit.

On restart, I'm again asked if I want to convert my Netscape profile, and when I chose to Mange Profiles the existing profile isn't seen. It still exists on disk.

If I restart and this time choose to convert my old profile, the same happens.

Is anyone seeing the same as me? I'm really confused about what is going on here :?

Hmm - I've just created an entirely new user: And as this user, seamonkey just works!

Since I removed the .mozilla from my own profile, what else might be causing it to break on my profile, but not on a new one? The existance of a Netscape4 profile? Some environment variable?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated...

Ah-ha, got it!

If your profile has a .netscape directory (e.g. has *ever* run SGI's default browser) then seamonkey will ask to convert this, but will not see any other profiles. So it's not possible to mix Netscape and Seamonkey as the same user. Admittedly, few people nowadays will want to do this - but it should be possible...

Any chance you could take a look at this bug?

Cheers,

Stuart

http://forums.nekochan.net/modules.php?set_albumName=album114&id=sm48x48&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

ps. this icon is one I crapped out for my laptop (Linux) so I have no idea if it will work. I figure it could be easily converted to xpm or whatever Irix needs for icons. On that note, anyone want to share how to set default application icons in Irix?

Go for it!

If this can be fixed, then I can remove the million different versions of Mozillla/Firefox I currently have installed, and settle on Seamonkey alone. Which would be fantastic :)

P.S. Seamonkey/GTK2 runs with perfectly acceptable performance on my dual-400MHz Octane - and looks just wonderful. Antialiased Truetype fonts are something that no-one should be without.
