Games on Irix

Unread postby mia » Wed Feb 19, 2003 2:07 pm

Seems that there's a nice set of games around for O2 or Impact class machines.

As far as I know, one is called "Vampire" and another "Certain Impact" from Paradigm, you can see a picture of the last one here:

http://www.jumboprawn.net/jesse/images/ ... gfight.gif

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems that these demos were bundled with IRIX 5.3, 6.2 or 6.3.

Anyone has a copy, or the original game? I'm sure if it was on a 'demo' CD, asking wouldn't hurt.

Some says that it runs pretty well on an O2 (even a 180Mhz one.)

Once again, I'm not sure but it seems that the tardist is called:
'cimpact.sw.*'

Please reply if you have this wonder and others demos that came on the same CD.

I wouldn't mind finding that myself. No idea where to look though :(

O2 demos CDs?

Unread postby mia » Wed Feb 19, 2003 2:20 pm

If you have some *legacy* O2 demo CDs, like those which were shipped with 6.3, it might be on it, somewhere, but once again, I'm not 100% sure.

I checked all my 6.3/6.4 CDs and it's nowhere to be found.

Maybe it's only on the O2 software package, as a part of the O2 demos or something? Maybe only O2 R10k?

Maybe it's on a Hot Mix (I don't think so, nekoko, would you please stick the contents of each 'HOT MIX' cd under their picture, that might be useful for some).

Maybe on Out of Box Experience CD?

Maybe on IRIX Demos 1.1.1 for Irix 6.3 Including R10k?

Maybe even try emailing the guy who is the owner of the site and ask him which CD the game is located on....

No, flightgear is completely different, and doesn't seems to make advantage of SGI's hardware.

so ill try to see if maybe i could pull something out? if you could help me point out what to do then would be great too ;)

but geeez i hope i didn't violate anything by telling these? if i did, really am sorry :(

"Certain Impact" was on the "IMPACT Demos CD 6.2"

Normally it's locked to "MGRAS" graphics, but some creative editing of the .idb file should take care of that. I think I even ran it on my Crimson RE at some point :D
Now this is a deep dark secret, so everybody keep it quiet :)

This is not quite on topic, but speaking of old O2 demos, I recall one from Assembly in 1998 where they had an O2 on display, it was running some demo of a really fat guy talking with all the wobbling of the jowls and things... Anyone know this one? (It may just have been a video, I didn't look very close at the time, being on the hunt for an ethernet cable as I recall.)

N.B.: I tend to talk out of my ass. Do not take it too seriously.
