Your directory structure didn't turn out like mine.

In your projects directory, you have "setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu", whereas I have "setiathome.berkeley.edu"

As I understand things, that folder should reflect the URL of the project that it is attaching to, so I'm wondering how your's got a different name?

Not that it matters, your's seems to work, mine keeps throwing client errors. Maybe if it ever gets a work unit without an error I'll get the ssl directory.

Barry

Well, I am trying too, and I'm getting :
Quote:
2005-06-07 23:10:13 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] No schedulers responded
2005-06-07 23:10:13 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] No schedulers responded
2005-06-07 23:10:13 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Deferring communication with project for 2 minutes and 16 seconds
2005-06-07 23:10:13 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Deferring communication with project for 2 minutes and 16 seconds

So, does that mean nothing's happening? server down? wrong info?

Berkeley has been having major difficulties since last Friday, their upload/download machines have been crashing all over the place.

However, and this is good news, as of 1825 UTC, I'm up on my O2.

Woohoo! Not that I expect any kind of major calculations out of it, but it's a good retirement for the blue toaster.

And no, I never did get the ssl directory that shows up in nekonoko's directory structure.

That's what I have - I don't remember entering anything special, but it definitely communicates with that URL for me:

Code:
2005-06-02 23:25:21 [---] May run out of work in 0.10 days; requesting more
2005-06-02 23:25:21 [SETI@home] Requesting 967.41 seconds of work
2005-06-02 23:25:21 [SETI@home] Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
2005-06-02 23:25:22 [SETI@home] Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded
2005-06-02 23:25:23 [SETI@home] Started download of 03dc03ab.22340.19490.286082.71
2005-06-02 23:25:29 [SETI@home] Finished download of 03dc03ab.22340.19490.286082.71
2005-06-02 23:25:29 [SETI@home] Throughput 68048 bytes/sec

Probably doesn't matter much if it's working for you though.

What did you enter as a project url?

I have, according to an email back in March, "http://setiathome.berkeley.edu"

Did you have a project URL with SSL in it?

Just wondering....

Next is getting my 486 box on line, boy is it ever gonna be slow.

I don't recall - I probably used http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/

Looks like both link to the same place, just a different URL.

Poor old 486 box doesn't remember how to boot up. Am I gonna have to teach him DOS before he remembers? I dunno, I only have a day before I leave home, it's like teaching spelling to a kid.

Nekonoko, thanks for the feedback. I'll get a handle on this one day.

Hi,

I entered http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/ for the URL, but what is an account key.
Do I have to sign up for one? Should I use a nekochan one? How do I get my units credited toward the nekochan team? Sorry for the newbie questions.

Now some performance related questions.
Does it automatically multiprocess? I have an Origin3400 32x400 that I want to test against an Origin2000 32x400. Does it use much memory. If so, would I have to configure the memory to 32GB on the Origin2000 to match the Origin3400 to be fair or is it going to go unused. My default was to config the 2000 with 8GB.

Thanks,
Doug

Well, I have an account now, and figured out some weird things.
When I tried to run boinc, I got the following message (account key edited)
Code:
silas:~/boinc> ./boinc
2005-06-09 05:36:36 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.58 for mips-sgi-irix6.5
Enter the URL of the project: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
You should have already registered with the project
and received an account key by email.

Please check the URL and try again.

I did a search, and foud out tat the hostname should not be [isaac], but from the url you are looking to attach to like [setiathome.berkeley.edu].
For some reason it looks like the hostname isaac is compiled into boinc instead of getting it from the url?
So I put the following entry into my hosts file "quote]128.32.18.152 setiathome.berkeley.edu isaac[/quote]
and now is seems to be working because it just said:
Code:
silas:~/boinc> ./boinc
2005-06-09 05:38:06 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.58 for mips-sgi-irix6.5
Enter the URL of the project: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
You should have already registered with the project
and received an account key by email.
Paste the account key here: f3amashek.comde

2005-06-09 05:38:14 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults
2005-06-09 05:38:14 [---] Insufficient work; requesting more

and is tying up a lot of cpu time.

Anybody run into this error?

Thanks,
Doug

Well, I was wrong. Something is wrong. I don't know what it was doing that was so CPU intensive, but after about 10 minutes, it stopped and said.

Code:
2005-06-09 05:48:14 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Master file fetch failed
2005-06-09 05:48:14 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Master file fetch failed

Please check the URL and try again.

Any ideas?

Probably a bad time to be troubleshooting right now - the SETI@Home servers are down at the moment. They've been having all sorts of problems ever since I posted the blog entry - poor timing on my part I guess :)

Anyone had any luck with other BOINC apps on SGI such as Einstein@home? That one searches for gravity waves.

Is Einstein@Home open source? I don't see a source code download on their page. Without the source - no IRIX port.

Edit: Now I can't even get the Einstein@Home project page to load from here - I'm cursed!

Well, my partner in crime here at work got his hands on the source, he was a beta tester for it, but he couldn't get it to compile with mips pro on our 32 proc o2k. (will post hinv next week after RAM upgrade) Don't remember what the problem with the code was right now, and we didn't have time to mess with it. I'll see if he has the current source code.. I'll keep you all posted if anyone wants to give it a shot :)

Doesn't surprise me - the current BOINC/SETI client for MIPS was apparently compiled with gcc. The code's not the most elegant from what I understand :)

I did try and give it a spin myself under MIPSpro but it died very early on. BOINC is written in C++ which isn't a language I'm versed in.
