Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
I'm working officially now on the Mupen64Plus dev. team and we're trying to improve the emualtor's GUI. One issue that always bugged me was the input GUI didn't have a good picture of an N64 controller. I tried google and there is not one good diagram of the controller. I'm imagining something akin to the Snes9X page as seen here:
but for the N64 controller. This is way beyond any of my 3D skills, but since there are both talented people here, and people who might being doing projects to help learn, I thought I'd ask if anyone could whip something up.
Thanks in advance.

hi,
what exactly do you need, 3D model (rendered) in perspective view ? or plain "top" side view (with litlle 3D shading) - i supose you want to fill over it with input fields/forms for joy setup ...
example: http://pingmag.jp/images/article/nintendo3.jpg
... as you define the task maybe me or someone here will help you for shure
cheers

You want an N64 controller?
Hold on. I'll go take a few shots for you.
EDIT: how about these?

Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
Thanks for the quick replies. Cybercrow guessed exactly what I want for the emulator, a high resolution render of the controller rendered in a plain "top" view with a little shading. Essentially, I want this:
but better. Ideally, with a little more perspective, in higher resolution, without the arrows already overlaid, and with working alpha. I pulled the above out of the code for the Blight input plugin currently used by Mupen and other emulators, sadly SDL_SaveBMP doesn't preserve alpha and the arrows are part of the image.
One of my options is to take this image and fire up krita and spend a good deal of time trying to remove the arrows, fix the edges, and enlarge it, but I think starting from scratch is better.
@pentium, thanks for the images, they're the right view, and another option I thought about was taking a hi-res photo of a real controller and making it "diagram-like," either manually playing with it in krita or by applying some cell-shading filter (probably have to ask my Photoshop buddies about that).
The end goal is to add arrows back (in a more intelligent way) and put the fields for the buttons around the controller. Right now Blight's plugin uses some SDL GUI functions which cause lots of problems, like taking CPU usage to 100%, so I'm trying to replace that portion of the plugin (planning both GTK 2 and Qt 4 versions) and make the GUI more intuitive and more appealing.

Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
why not shoot a nice photo of a real controller and do a little postwork on it? far less timeconsuming than constructing this device and shade, render, postprocess it. anyway you might be able to find a 3d model on turbosquid.com or somesuch but it will most likely not be free.
Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
... i`m willing to help you with this one in next 7 days, maybe few weeks, i hope is not urgent. pls to p.m. me short/resumed specifications, (img res, format, exact model wanted etc.) so i can start to work on it ...
cheers

Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
@GIJoe, I did mention that was an option in the second half of my last post. I tried playing around with the images pentium posted, but nothing I made seemed to look all that good. Please feel free to work with those or others you have and share. Right now I think a render of a 3D model is the best way to go (since that is what the Snes9x guys did - and I think that Snes9x has the best input dialogue of any emulator), but I'm open to whatever looks best.
@Cybercrow, PM sent. It's not urgent and thanks for volunteering!

Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
Wow!
That's a lot better than what I currently have!
Did you find that somewhere or make a model / render?
Either way, many, many thanks.
If its a render, might you provide the original model (or PM for some minor comments - to take it from 95% perfect to 100%).
Wow!

Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
sorry for bumping an old thread but i would really like to get the final product of the n64 controller model.
Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
Check SGI's "Space in your Face"-demo - there is a model of an N64 including controller. It is an OpenGl Performer Demo.

It's part of IRIX 6.5.16 CD Set - Demonstration. I will look for it, when I'm at home again.

Re: Request - 3D imagine of N64 Controller
I also attached a screenshot, which I made out of "perfly". I ran "perfly.face" only with a framebuffer depth of X8, since it does not like running on my v12 with 1680x1050_60x32.
The file that you want is
But please don't ask me, how to get that one into Blender/Maya to use it for your project.
