Call me an Idiot…

But this thing is lovely… :-D

Incredibly dense packed technology… absolutely sufficient… *WOW*
They did it again… Apple obviously want to use the halo effect… huh?

I just fell in love again… with a computer…
Guys… the cube is back…

Best regards,
Martin

As being paranoia (when it comes to servers), it's too bad it doesn't have room for two disks in software RAID1, it would make an excelent home-office server.
Especially when you would buy Mac OS X Server.

But they didn't :(

Though it is probably a very good Internet machine and for some other simple home user tasks. Though I'm not needing one as I've got a PowerBook allready.

It'll be interesting how much it raises Mac sales that's for sure, still i think i'd hang off till they produce one with a G5 in it :P

just put in order for one. Thing is, although advertised at $499 and $599, by the time I added a useable amount of RAM, airport, etc I was up to $800 and change. Worse yet, Apple wants $475 for an upgrade to 1GB

We'll see how the machine is in person, but I'm a little concerned about serviceability. I'd like to be able to add the RAM and a bigger HD myself, but even the airport card is listed as a dealer-only install.

I liked the machines presented at macrumors.com when the machine was still just a rumour much better. The specks where about the same, but the casing was more like the xserve instead of this shuttle-look alike. Don't get me wrong, the design is great, and clean as h***, but I really would have liked to be able to expand the machine a bit (extra hdd, more than two ram sockets etch).

Anyway, it don't look like I will be able to buy one of these in near future. I had to choose weather to save my money for the mac (which was just a rumour at the time) or bid my money on a SGI Octane 2 auction on eBay. Haven't won yet, but I might just... Hope I made the right decision, either way I would have regretted.

I ordered mine about 30 seconds after the online store reopened (and before it subsequently melted down for an hour).

I'll post a full review they day it arrives.

I figured it would be hard to go wrong with the Mini... $499, free shipping, and it comes with the OS and a bunch of software preinstalled, even Quicken. That's a better deal that the last Mini-ITX PC I put together for Windows XP.

(I was able to sell a bunch of old car parts and most of my older SGI parts, so I'm finally back in the black... time to waste some more cash!)

Everyone's probably seen everything by now, but I just got back from Macworld and posted up a bunch of pictures (over a hundred from two cameras) in the Gallery.

It's 519euro in ireland that works out with the exchange rate as about $679 i wonder what the $200 markup is for (and Apple got a plant/european HQ here)

-----Edit-------

Just noticed that 519euro price includes VAT (value added tax) that brings down the price difference to about 60 dollars (not so bad)

I could live that and an overclocked o2 on my office desk. That would be sweet.

£339 inc VAT here in the UK with free shipping.
I'm very tempted to pick one up to get acquainted with OSX.

I'd have to get a gig stick for it though, which puts up the price quite a bit!
