Maya 6...

Unread postby Cory5412 » Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:15 am

Personal Learning Edition is here today!
http://www.alias.com/eng/products-servi ... ndex.shtml

I got an eMail today saying that it's got actually alot of the features of the commercial maya complete, just a few differences in fileformat and that watermark thing. Still is relatively cool. :)

The site seems to have tutorials, brochures and other misc. things about being new to 3d, as well as a link to either buy the software on CD/DVD with a load of tutorials and a book, or to download it. (147mb)

Looks good, after I get done retrieving the OSX 10.3.5 update, I'm going to start in on this download right away.

Heck, the International Full Version, Discount Edition has been in our local stores for ages already. No watermarks, either :-)

Plus it runs on IRIX, which can't be said of the Personal Learning Edition :)

yeah... I wonder if it runs on an Indy :P

Though... I can't get the PLE downloaded... it's a 147mb download, which is about 16 hours on dialup :P Not quite something the parents would love.

<Dr Evil grin>
Maya 6.0 IRIX qualified hardware
Any Indy with 8bit graphics INTERACTIVE APPLICATIONS CANNOT RUN. For other purposes refer to Indy above
Indy R4000/R4400/R4600/R5000 with 24bit graphics Untested: IRIX 6.5.12m [3][4]

[3] Indy 24bit: you are likely to encounter the following known problems:

* CVs and vertices may show through polygonal geometry in hardware shaded mode
* Under some circumstances, sprites in hardware shaded mode may appear broken up.
* Some workflows may cause screen refresh to be incorrect as you tumble and track views. Although it is unlikely that you will encounter this, changing to shaded mode and back will often correct the display.
* Transparency does not display correctly in Hardware Render Buffer.
* Indy graphic systems may encounter minor graphics related problems that are not listed here in detail. These problems should not affect your workflow.

[4] Indy XZ: you are likely to encounter the following known problems:

* File textures not transparent in xray mode and you will be unable to see CVs, vertices or other components of objects that are behind file mapped objects.
* Some surfaces may incorrectly appear white when rendered in the Hardware Render Buffer.
* Sometimes rendering a region in IPR doesn't display correctly.
* Indy graphic systems may encounter minor graphics related problems that are not listed here in detail. These problems should not affect your workflow.

So, it's not impossible, it's just that nobody was crazy enough to try :P

I was about to fire up my PowerSeries when I read this:

NOT SUPPORTED
Maya 6.0 IS NOT QUALIFIED and NOT SUPPORTED on R4000 Indigo, R2000 and R3000 based systems:

* R4000 Indigo
* Professional Series
* Power Series
* Personal Iris
* R3000 Indigo

In addition, the following Graphics Systems ARE NOT QUALIFIED and NOT SUPPORTED:

* GT Graphics
* GTX Graphics
* VGX Graphics
* VGXT Graphics
* ANY 8-bit Graphics platform

Bummer :lol:
