OSX Snow Leopard - NTFS Support

trying to access an ntfs usb harddrive on my macbook to install some software. until now i thought there is native ntfs read support 10.2 onwards, but this particular install does not recognize the ntfs partition. only a pop if which suggests to initialize the unknown disk.
i also tried some helper softwares like ntfsmounter, ntfs-3g,paragon and so on. they are all are of no help, still no go. the disks mounts fine under windows and linux.
any magic ticks to make this work?

Did you try MacFUSE?

I think I used to use Paragon back in the Panther/Tiger days, but it seems they only support newer versions of OSX now. They might still have the old software around if you email them.

macfuse with ntfs-3g was my first try, than i tried paragon ntfs for snow leopard than ntfsmounter. none of this tools doing anything good or to be precise, it changes nothing ift they are installed or not.

Is it possible that the drive is encrypted with Microsoft's Bitlocker? macOS doesn't recognize Bitlocker-encrypted volumes and rather unhelpfully offers to initialize them.

hmm...a while back it was encrypted with truecrypt and then decrypted, maybe the disk header is still garbled wiht truecrypt's crap. i will look this up with an hexeditor.
