NeXT vs Sun

Unread postby spiroyster » Thu Jul 14, 2016 1:05 am

Wasn't too sure which thread to post this in (or if it has been posted before, apologies if so), but since history is written by the victors, I thought it maybe better it revered in the apple thread, rather than spat at and reduced to a conspiracy theory in the sun thread.

Its clearly a biased test, and snide advertising on the part of the NeXT, but as a developer (for my sins) in this day and age. I find it really fascinating watching "real life development on the fly" back then and how little most of it has changed. And I can't believe they are still trying to push obj-c, even after 25+ years. o.0

I don't hate Objective-C, though its verbosity is sometimes annoying.

It's not so much Obj-C than the frameworks NeXT provided, the Project Maker and the Interface Builder, which back when this video was made, sped up development massively. On SunOS there wasn't anything simlar, plus you had to deal with Xt / Xlib as well as your choice of OpenLook or whatever it was they were stuck with using.
