the 11 is sweet. i knew i didn't want the 13 inch because id was coming from a macbook of that size.

i was asking if the fan revs up only when you're using some form of flash (audio. video, etc)


my thoughts exactly, anything bigger than 11 and the proportional zen of a road movie machine breaks (or we'd probably demand more than 2 usb ports)

I don't use Hulu, but I just watched a few films in YouTube HD for about 20 minutes or so.

I muted the sound at several points and could not hear any fan noise, except for a soft whirr if I held the keyboard up to my ear. In addition, at the end the machine was only moderately warm. Maybe fu got a machine where they forgot to add the heatsink lube, or maybe the UK models are different than the Canadian one which I have?

In any event, It is the perfect little machine. I suppose I should replace the antichrist with a mac mini as well:

Not only can I not get the fastfan on*, it doesn't even seem to get very warm to touch. Aperture and mathematica and building ports are about the only thing I do to tax it tho... also for the mathematica benchmark (I know, I know, but I had to see for myself!) it is only a few seconds slower than my big old monster box: dual opteron 254, 16gb ram, etc, etc, etc, 800 watts when unpluged... which was sold off along with everything else here that might have walked, talked, or quacked like a wintendo pc.

My only regret is not getting one sooner! Less time spent futzing with the computer means more time for more exciting things. It also cleaned up my work space here quite a bit as you can see compared to the photo above...

it is also just as easy to carry around as my old thinkpad was more solid too.


*it is getting warm here... 28 yesterday, I baked a cake last nite and almost put the A/C on but went outside to play instead while the oven was on. I'll see what it does in two weeks when I dial my latitude further south for a while to go back to school... actually less than two weeks now my 3 month gig is almost over...
