Wacom Serial Tablets Under Mac OS X

Unread postby nekonoko » Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:01 am

Recently I came across an open source driver for the older serial ArtZ II series tablets. I dusted off my old 12x12 and I'm happy to say it works great with a generic Prolific chipset USB serial converter:

Figured this might be of interest to some.

Heh, I came across this driver last month, dug out my old ArtZ II 12x12 (which I haven't used in years) and gave it a try. Was so impressed I sold my USB Intuos 6x8 :)

At the very least it gives your old serial tablet more resale value if you decide to recoup some of your Intuos2 costs.

Thinking about it my Artz would have sucked for Shake use since it doesn't support pens with a "middle mouse button". But still, good find.

I also bought a 6x11 this week for the g5. I should have it tommorow. The 6x8 was pretty much unusable when trying to span it across two widescreen displays.

I've never gotten a chance to interact with a 12x12. I've only used the 12x18's, the 9x12's and the 6x8's. How does 12x12 feel in comparison to say a 9x12? I always thought it would be really awkward.

i'd like to say just one more thing here....

I absolutely love my UD 12x18. I know I know, they can hate me, they can laugh....but its pretty much the best damn tablet i've used.

12x12 has a design problem (for me, anyway): it's very thick and thus far less convenient to use than a 9x12. also it doesn't match a regular screen aspect ratio so i ended off restricting the active area down to 9x12.

Well i got my tablet! It's working great! I'm still messing around with the mouse speed and pen pressure.

What levels for the pen pressure do you guys like to use?
