[Need help] SCSI troubles

Unread postby Str1kernaut » Mon Jan 22, 2018 11:09 am

Hello, i have these SCSI devices:
Adaptec 19160 U160 PCI SCSI card
    2 HP/Compaq SCA 80 137gb disks, 15k RPM
I have this problem: i bought 2 SCA80 to 50/68 pin, if i plug the 68 pin terminated cable to the adapters and the card the disks won't spin up and won't get detected, if i plug instead the 50 pin cable the disks spin up and i can boot Windows XP. It's the cable's fault? Or are the adapters? Thanks
(Now the nickname it's correct)
I'm an ICT student (2° year at ITIS Scano). Since i was 8 years old i've got an interest for ICT, and since i was 2 years old i've got an interest for technology (I've got a photo when i was 2 years old with a pair of headphones).
I built my first gaming pc with new parts at July 2017: Ryzen 5 1400, 2x4GB Corsair 3000mhz, R7 360 2GB (bought from a friend), Corsair CX 450M, AsRock AB350M Pro4.
In these months i developed an interest for workstations, in particular SGI (thanks Dodoid, you channel is awesome :D)

The Adaptec 19160 has a narrow (50-pin) external port. Only the internal port is wide; this is what distinguishes it from the 29160 (wide internal and external ports) and 39160 (two wide external ports).
There could also be some problem with your 50-to-68 cable.

My Adaptec 19160 has 2 narrow ports: 1 internal, 1 external and a wide internal port (u160, 68 pin). The disks works fine with the 50 pin cable, they don't work with the 68 pin cable
