DDS tapedrive eats tape

Unread postby 55cancri » Tue Jan 16, 2018 10:19 am

has someone ever tried to repair a DDS drive? My DDS3 drive has a brittle capstan, but it is still flexible. I cleaned every part that touches the tape, but it makes no difference. I've read that those DDS drives are sensitive and I see that they are made of a million moving parts, like a VCR.

Sad, if I have to throw it away because of a piece of rubber, or something, but my electronics- and programming skills are non existant. Is there any hope? :|

On the picture you can see how the tape gets stuck and accumulates :(

Over on the cctalk mailing list I've seen recommendations for a place called Terry's Rubber Rollers to get parts for fixing various types of tape drive rollers. I have no idea if the one in your DDS drive can be replaced with one of his, but it might be worth looking into if you really want to keep the drive operational.
