Y888099, we have a "Miscellaneous Operating Systems/Hardware" forum. Please consider posting these topics there in the future, as this clearly relates to specific hard- and software. This may also help with when you're looking for assistance from other users as not everyone reads "Everything Else" which is taken to be OT, i.e. topics not covered by one of the other categories. A lot of your other posts in "Everything Else" would be better off in "Miscellaneous Operating Systems/Hardware", too. Moving this for you and good luck with your experiments.

that you were touching the future years before the rest of
the world. And that other computers and operating systems
will do with brute force what the Amiga did years before with
grace, elegance and style.

As I remember it, the idea of storing the kernel as a compressed image was an "innovation" of Linux. There seemed to be a consensus that it was VERY IMPORTANT for the file to be less than a megabyte, thus the vmlinuz. Historically, Unix systems did not do this, because there were tools that needed to read from the kernel image to do their job (like adb, ps, and sysctl) and a compressed kernel image was just making life hard for them for very little benefit.
