I've used both X201s and X220s at work, and the screen on the X201 is far superior when compared side by side. The X220's screen feels a lot more cramped in comparison and the added fatness of the bezel at the top and bottom just looks silly (and reminds you how much screen they've replaced with plastic to cut costs). It also has one of the worst trackpads I've ever used. Integrated buttons, and that "dimpled" texture they applied to it makes my skin crawl when I use one.

I'm with commodorejohn here. I despise 16:9 screens, and I also despise "integrated" trackpads as well.

Ah, if it's the trackpad that bothers you I would have to agree. I only use the trackpoint, so that didn't cross my mind.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the X201. With 5-7-day shipping, it should hopefully get here around the same time as the SSD, which I ordered last Friday with that fucking NewEgg "super saver" shipping via DHL because I wasn't paying attention, meaning that it shipped from City of Industry three days ago headed for Placerville (literally day-trip distance) and is currently in "no tracking updates ever" limbo apparently still waiting to get to the distribution center in Compton. And I was dead on with my prediction, the SSD and the laptop both got here yesterday despite one being ordered a week earlier :/ But what the hell, I got them both when I needed them and I've got a three-day weekend to work on this. Got it set up with an install of Devuan (the Debian fork that eliminates systemd) and things seem to be working quite nicely (I was pleasantly surprised to find a Linux distribution that supports wireless networking right there in the installer, and one that gives me zero bullshit about proprietary firmware for the wireless chipset!) Currently getting the software setup tweaked, then I'm going to start transferring files over from my current daily driver - after seeing what Windows 10 is like, I figure it's about time for me to make another attempt at switching over, 'cause it ain't gettin' any better...

So, after this excursion into Linux and Lenovo, how is the SATA performance of the SSD?

Not bad. I'm mainly impressed by how quick software installation is - I imagine because any Linux package is composed of about seven hundred files scattered across multiple partitions, the speedup there is several orders of magnitude.
