This is all v v cool stuff. I know next to nothing about electronics, so seeing people messing with a computer's 'bits' is quite amazing to me.

Well, first of all (to the best of my knowledge) there are no schematics for MIPS systems out there, plus the boards are not built from simple 74xx TTL chips but full of PALs and other programmable logic.

I have some old 4D boards that could use treatment...

<sigh>

To accentuate the special identity of the IRIS 4D/70, Silicon Graphics' designers selected a new color palette. The machine's coating blends dark grey, raspberry and beige colors into a pleasing harmony. (IRIS 4D/70 Superworkstation Technical Report)

That I thought after my recently acquired Indigo developed some kind of memory bank cancer. This stuff ages - that's for sure.

I visited the Living Computer Museum in Seattle in August, and so was fortunate enough to have a go on a real Alto that was networked to some virtual Altos running the museum's 'ContrAlto' emulator. Mazewars 4 player was fun! You can download the emulator for free. Have had some fun networking some emulated Altos and playing Mazewars. I recommend having a play. :)

Part 10:

The problem was an unsupported hardware configuration (we still seem to have these problems, grrr)
Now with one of the processor boards exchanged, it works! (except the network wasn't tested)

Some demos of Draw.run at the end
