Coming back to this, I picked up an HP Jornada 548 in the box, complete with power adapter and USB cradle, for $5 at a thrift store this weekend. (The same store also had a box set of Perl references including the Camel Book - I almost grabbed it, but I didn't feel like spending $8 just for a laugh.) It's chunkier and less responsive than the Palms, but I'm still curious to have a play with it because I've never used Windows CE for anything. Anybody know if there's a good resource for CE software out there? From what I read, it's CE 3.0 running on a Hitachi SH-3.

I kinda liked SuperH systems. Shame they never really took off (example: the Dreamcast).

I didn't like them that much. ;)

Currently my SuperH jones is trying to shore up Dreamcast Linux. I have a lot of it refurbished now. Need to make a release.

Linux on DreamCast? Do you have enough ram?

have you forced an huge slice of virtual memory on the swap?

The DC has 16MB of RAM, which can boot the kernel, go multiuser and do some simple things, but is pretty much hopeless by modern standards. The reason I preferred Linux over the extant NetBSD port was because DC Linux comes with enough on disc that you can actually run it without an NFS mount to a root filesystem and have the unit actually "do stuff." In this mode, it just acts like a regular LiveCD, except it keeps everything on the disc and overlays RAM for changes.

The only way of doing swap, though, is NFS. I use NFS swap when I'm compiling things.

do you have a keyboard and a lan?

Yes, both, but I usually just telnet into it and have it building things. I'm sure I'll burn the GD-ROM out sooner or later though.

are you going to run mame? (too crazy, too cool)

Could and should are two different things ...
