Question: where is it "smartest" to buy SCSI cables these days? I'm looking for the internal 50-pin variety.
("smartest" = cheapest, including shipping to my part of the world)

IF you can find one of those "recycling" places with the store attached you can usually get them cheap. Otherwise cultivate friends with tech interests and hoarding tendencies and try to sneak into their garages. Anyone they live with will probably be an ally.

If you're in the WA area PM me.

Salvage anything from where ever you can, even PCs of 286, 386 vintage might have a Adaptec 1542 SCSI card and 50-pin ribbon cable.
Don't pay too much for it just because someone claims it is "rare".

I once had a computer that gave me a lot of trouble. Finally the scsi cable entirely crapped out and I had to buy a new one, right there and right then. The shop down the street only had an expensive $40 silky-flexible silicone insulated whizzbang one.

Never had another problem with that computer. Sometimes "cheapest" is not the same as "smartest".

+ actually stuff "gets old', I had this PC with overclocked Pentium III from 733 to 800 (66 MHz base overclocked to 72) or so, and after some 2 years it started to become unstable, I went down with the clock 66 and it was just fine again.
Solder oxidizes, condensers expand etc...
It's hard to believe a cable would "break" but since all metals are subject to at least oxidation this is likely - and it may not be about a good or bad cable - it may be about old or a new one :)

Cheers.
