Them good ol' webtv boxes

Unread postby pentium » Sun Oct 22, 2006 5:47 pm

A few years back, my parents purcahsed a brand new INT-W200 Webtv box for the purpose of going online and whatever else they liked on the flashy pamphlet they received in the mailbox a week before we bought it.
Many years on my parents finally gave the system up for high speed (and a pc) and I installed it in my setup, thinking I would later use it when I had the time to subscribe.
Suddenly it was 2006 and I have yet to even subscribe to msn tv which is now gone the way of the dodo. Now I have a little system that pretty much does nothing but looks like a perfect unit to hold linux (since it has a hard drive). I have spent hours pouring over google and I have yet to see anything on putting linux on it. Come on, if they put linux on an ipod, they must have done it on a webtv system by now.

NOTE: hey, it uses a mips R4640 cpu!

Seriously?
No one has ever run anything on this system?
Shame, nice piece of hardware too.

I heard of those. I never really knew what exactly they were trying to do.

Well didn't Jim Clarke want to push into that whole area and it was one of the reasons he left cause Management didn't want to pursue it.
