I don't recommend GitHub

This may be old news, but as a white person affected by their attitude, I think everyone should know. Github has an anti-white agenda.

Now I don't have an issue about people holding progressive ideals. That's actually totally cool and all. What I do have a problem with is when people use racist rhetoric and agendas and call it 'diversity training'.

I highly recommend anyone who cares about this issue move to alternative online repos. It's racist, it's unfair and it's unkind of Github to think that every white person somehow is a racist and not a part of workplace diversity.

I went to Florida Tech, one of the most culturally diverse colleges in Florida. I went to school with everyone from Jamaica, to China, to Nigeria, to Brazil, to a guy from Vladinvostok in the Russian Far East. And yet, white people still had a place on campus. Imagine that.

I fully agree. (That is as far as I go, because "no politics please")

I just think it's worth bringing up as I notice Github growing regardless. People need to know. That's about it.

All public CVS hosts are just schemes to gain ground in a turf war for control of open-source software. I'm not surprised that they're run by petty fascists.

i didn't know about this and i'm surprised in a negative way. a company that makes itself look "modern" and "open" to the outside having scientology-style briefings? disturbing ...

VCS, I think you mean? CVS is ancient crap. I prefer mercurial personally hence bitbucket.

Yeah, I guess I mean VCS. I've always heard them used interchangeably.

CVS stands for Concurrent Versions System. And it's pretty much abandoned except for OpenBSD, NetBSD and a handful of other projects that stick with it.

I do like Mercurial (and thus Bitbucket) better anyways. Much more portable, no endless list of awful dependencies, not born out of a collection of shell-script hacks from Linus Torvalds.

As usual I dont understand.

If your code is sh*t... It is sh*t. What is there to discriminate about? Positive or otherwise? On the list of possible activities in which colour, ethnicity, age, gender or political affiliation might play a role in discrimination, surely software must be near the bottom? It makes no difference if you're white, yellow, black, brown or red, your sh*t code will stand out because of it's sh*tness.

What are these people going on about?

@All:

My two cents:

Are you sure you are interpreting the message properly?
This sounds to me more like a "black lives matter" thing. They don't mean white lives don't matter, they are just trying to attract attention to the situation of the minority.

The line 1 should be read as: "This is not work ONLY for white folks to lead".
I invite you to re-read the whole thing with that perspective.

Interesting related reads:

Then, of course, however you feel about active inclusion policies in corporations and societies is your own business. =)

Just by way of example, take a look at the credits list for Mozilla, it's a testament to the simple and obvious fact that open source is already jam-packed with diversity: https://www.mozilla.org/credits/

No, that's really not what the intent is there, judging from every other bullet point.
