Tux that overload IRIX...

Unread postby sum][one » Thu Mar 16, 2006 12:17 pm

It just happened here something strange which hanged connections to my O2...

trying to delete few files via samba share from the O2 ... I know this might not be the best way .. but i did for long time with Windows XP to "organize" my O2 stuffs... using samba shares.

anyway to make story short I'm now experimenting Suse10 on my laptop since I want to get rid of Windows and I was browsing such O2 samba shares as I did before on Win, then i tried to delete a number of directories, let's say around 50, containing 60 files each ... it started to delete the files/directory but few seconds after i had an error and after that i wasnt able to connect on the O2 via telnet,ssh,samba for few minutes...

and here's an output error when trying to telnet the O2:

Code: Select all

jclaude@hellboy:~> telnet alien
Trying 192.168.1.3...
Connected to alien.
Escape character is '^]'.

IRIX (alien.mim)

PANIC pt_bootstrap() Couldn't create pt_table - {0x0, 0x0}
Connection closed by foreign host.
jclaude@hellboy:~>

anyone ever experienced this?
maybe ther's something to trick about network config which allows more "bandwidth" or dunno... to avoid the overload above.

cheers

I'm currently in the same thing, ftp, ssh and telnet seem to refuse connections, but once I got the same error message before I got disconnected:

Code: Select all

johan@bluefan:~> telnet bluefan.nl
Trying 192.168.1.203...
Connected to bluefan.nl.
Escape character is '^]'.

IRIX (Toika)

PANIC pt_bootstrap() Couldn't create pt_table - {0x0, 0x0}
Connection closed by foreign host.
johan@bluefan:~> telnet bluefan.nl
Trying 192.168.1.203...
Connected to bluefan.nl.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
johan@bluefan:~>

NFS and apache are still running, although apache isn't going fine. I'm trying to figure this one out...
The bootstrap() error comes each time I try a telnet connection. Apache gives errors like this:

Code: Select all

Warning: exec() [function.exec]: Unable to fork [uname -a] in /usr/......(long path)
:O2:Toika :O2:Myra :O2:Fiona :Octane:Lisa :Octane:Sandra :Indigo2:Danica :Indy:Giana :O200:Lara :O200: :O200:Iona :O2000:Aida

I think this is an application/pthreads issue.
