Abuse for Irix - Help Required

Unread postby assyrix » Sat Aug 02, 2003 1:28 pm

I got my mitts on Abuse for Irix (a nice side-scrolling platform game). The game is now public domain and open-source since the company behind it has dissolved.

However, I cannot manage to get sgi-Abuse to recognize the files from the registered version. The execution stops with an undefined error which I have traced back to the file "english.lsp" in the "register" folder. Removing or renaming that file only results in a different error message. If you rename or remove the "register" folder altogether the game runs (with only four levels) without any problems. Any help would be much appreciated. Get the whole package from here:

http://assyrix.homestead.com/files/Abuse_1.10.tar.gz

As for the music - the sgi version doesn't support music :(

Would somebody please compile it since I only got the old 7.2 compilers and rather have a speedy version of Abuse (i.e. not use gcc)? I could host the finished binary if required.

Posted the tardist on neko ftp site. to use this you will need the datafile
from http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~trandor/abuse/

and you should use esound SDL audio driver.
oh and the tardist do not select the software by default
so you have to custom install it sorry.

The tardist has been moved to the webserver download area:

I won't be able to test until late evening :(

I alway seem to be dense when it come to getting these games up and running.
I get:
:abuse.sdl
Added himem block (3072000 bytes)
Memory available : 3071864
Abuse-SDL 0.7.0
Abuse (Version 2.00)
Sound : Disabled (couldn't find the sfx directory)
Specs : main file set to abuse.spe
No network driver, or network driver returned failure
Lisp : 527 symbols defined, 99 system functions, 319 pre-compiled functions
Unable to open filename art/dev.spe for requested item c_mouse1

A little assistance would be much appreciated.

Whew, sorry I took so long getting around to this! I went ahead and repacked the tardist so the registered datafiles are a default yet still optional part of the package which makes it much easier to set up (plug and play now). I also included the source code as an optional install.
