OpenSSH on an Indigo

Unread postby Nihilus » Sun Dec 19, 2004 8:27 pm

Installed Irix 6.5.22m and I wanted it to run along with ssh but the ssh-keygen takes hours for generating the RSA1-key, what's wrong? Any suggestions or work-arounds?

the problem, is that you're running crypto on a slow RISC processor, in other words, everything's working fine, but these are the things you get with trying 128 bit encryption on a computer from 1991.

Wrong

The R4000 rev 2.2 CPU on the Indigo has some serious bugs, which OpenSSH/OpenSSL stumbles on when creating the various RSA/DSA keys.
Did you try to compile OpenSSH/OpenSSL yourself? If so recompile without asm support. That should solve it.

I discovered that fw_openssh (3.7) worked like a charm but openssh in Irix overlays (3.6) was the buggy one.
And yeah... The RSA/DSA-algorithms aren't that difficult to generate keypairs for :P

That is some serious bug from the SGI folks. I believe you can download patches for openssh for that version, but it's extremely sloppy for SGI to forget that flag when building it into IRIX 6.5.22m

Hmmm, nothing in the supportportfolio :-/ But I guess I'll do fine with the freeware version alas it's not the way it ought to be :-/

12 years later and i have come across this exact same bug when i revived my ol'e dirty R4000 Indigo today. Guess i'm getting old since i knew this a looong time ago :)
In the closet for 13 years, fixed clock battery, unstuck both drives by shaking them a bit and we are off. Or that is what i hoped for when it hung itself while generating ssh-keys. Back to miniroot and removed openssh.sw subsystem.

So, did anyone find a patch for this 6.5.22m openssh 3.6 ? Nothing in my 6.5.22 patch directory which hints at a solution.

Because this being the last version with mips3 support, i will no get my hopes up and start refreshing openssh/openssl on nekoware with both mips3 and mips4 binaries, and get the freeware version in the meantime
