Yes, well ... times change, don't they ? Your company is in a position to scream. People here (for the most part) are just little shits with no pull. Perhaps nekochan could become an underground meeting house for companies subversive enough to demand from SGI what they promised when they sold multi-hundred-thousand dollar equipment ? Such as Graphics ? If you and squeen and foetz and dexter1 and some others get together to tell SGI "look assholes, you want us to buy Altix ? Then you damned well do a hell of a lot better at supporting what we already bought and paid for or it's gonna be HP and IBM for our future," maybe something positive can happen. Otherwise, they will just continue to shit on everyone.

Hard to understand what's happened to SGI ... until a few years ago they were a company to admire.

Oops. Sorry for polluting this thread.

Oops. Sorry for polluting this thread.

More pollution...I'm on a rant now.

Your company is in a position to scream. People here (for the most part) are just little shits with no pull. Perhaps nekochan could become an underground meeting house for companies subversive enough to demand from SGI what they promised when they sold multi-hundred-thousand dollar equipment ?

SGI thinks we're all little guys. 6 Onyxs, that's nothing to them. I think foetz & the rest of us are relying on Discreet to fight that battle for us.

The most important thing SGI needs to be concerned about is TRUST.
When you're looking at sinking a million+ dollars into a SAN, you've got to trust they can make it work with EVERY platform in house, and that they will be around for years to support the technology.

I can buy a loaded Onyx2 on ebay for less than the cost of a yearly support contract. With yearly support for each Onyx at around $20k, I agreed to let the support contracts lapse. There are all kinds of places on supportfolio I can no longer access. No more patches.

My real bottleneck is getting this type of material into Inferno or Fire as a reference clip.
First, whats wrong with "Motion JPEG Format A" QuickTime?

It's not what our clients are bringing in.

Second, doesn't mplayer work on your SGIs?

Never tried it in IRIX. I have MPlayer loaded on my laptop, but have only ever used this to playback MPEG.
I'll have to see if MPlayer will support Quicktime with the AVID, Black Magic, and Sorenson Codecs. At this time, it does not appear that MPlayer's FFmpeg/libavcodec supports these aftermarket codecs.

I ran across this link today, sounds like using mplayer is a common solution:

Just a post-XMas wish...

It would be nice to be able to use my iPaq with my O2 and Octane over the serial port...any chance that SynCE http://sourceforge.net/projects/synce/ would be able to be compiled under IRIX? I see no reason why...

In an ideal world yes. But at work, unfortunately, no. I am not allowed to connect anything to the network and there aren't many IP addresses available to use. So I would prefer to connect the PDA (which has no wireless capabilities anyhow) to the Octane using a cable...serial?

Thanks!

http://hugin.sourceforge.net/

I use another interface/GUI for assembling panoramas and mosaic images on Win32, but this has got to be a possibility for porting as appparently there is some progress on getting it to work on Mac OSX.

Basically for 3D work it could be used to make high resolution environment maps to put models into, that's my pitch at justification.

I use the Win32 GUI for spherical panoramas which are a 3D like 2D panorama that you can rotate look up and down etc

They run pretty slow on my O2 RM5200, but you get the idea.
