IRIX6.5.23 free to use?

Unread postby mashek » Tue Dec 14, 2004 1:27 pm

Hi,

Can anybody point me to an official SGI document that states that we can install IRIX6.5.current - 3 if we install the m version.

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,

Sofar the 6.5.23m release hasn't showed up for free supportfolio users, so that's a "no" then...

It's always at least a month late. Sometimes two. On occasion it's been more than a version behind where it should be. Perhaps the people currently running SGI don't know how to use a computer - it shouldn't be that difficult to remember to unlock the -3 version when they release a new one. Scripts ? Nah, that's for geeks.

The document should still be there somewhere - it was the one when they turned off free downloads of the m-stream overlays. Yes, they used to be free and current. When it became a less-than-valuable proposition for customers to buy support, SGI set a delay into the fixpack stream (i think hoping to force people to buy support contracts - what other reason could they have ? A strong desire to piss people off ?)
