Insignia SoftWindows 4.0

Unread postby maciac » Mon Dec 13, 2004 11:57 am

Hi all,

As a few may have heard I managed to joyously resurrect my O2 from the depths of the server room ... albeit with a bung HD that needed formatting.

My problem now is that I need to get SoftWindows 4.0 to work (so I can do some JADE programming), I have all the original install CDs, but no paperwork ... which I need to get the serial number.

SGI told me that I could just email them a request; and they'd give me the key (because I have/had a permanent license). Take a look at their response!

The Softwindows product has an "Expired" Support status with SGI.

Products in the "Expired" mode are no longer sold, supported or
distributed by SGI in any form.

Regards,
Karen Campbell

Bummer. Can anyone help? Or even explain how the licensing works on Irix? I'm used to just backing up preference files on my Macs! :)

Licensing is complicated but basicly, you need that number. No one here can give you one, sorry.

sob :(

Insignia don't make it any more, they haven't done for a few years, and I'm entitled to a license because I purchased an O2 *sigh*

Read the original license agreement and talk to a lawyer.

You're not entitled to jack squat.

by those same rules, neither are they :-) Search google groups for some possible solutions ...

(btw, since you're not the *original* purchaser, even by a geerous reading of the rules of software licenses you aren't entitled to nuttin'. So you gots to Get Smart. Where is 99 now that we need her ?)

get a debugger and learn how to use breakpoints ;)

and remember - if it's no longer sold or supported your not robbing them of anything.

softwindows "santa claus"

look for a thread with about 20 posts

You can probably figure it out from there....
