Nekoware rsync

Unread postby JacquesT » Wed May 09, 2018 11:36 pm

Are there any nekoware servers up that work with rsync / Nekosync? There are so many dead links around :(

Hey Jacques,

I had the same issue when looking to get a snapshot of nekoware - I was lucky at the time that someones FTP mirror was still up (ftp://ftp.sdf.org/pub/computers/sgi/) - so I mirrored from that snapshot, and then did a rsync against the nekoware main (which is rather slow, understandably).

For FTP mirror I used "lftp".

After that I copied the downloaded mess into a DINA VM, set the nekoware rsync source to nekochan's link, and perform a sync -> only pulls down the newer differences since that FTP snapshot was taken.

I can't help but feel rsync is the point of pain here - I might look into setting up a torrent for my snapshot at some point. It's a lot easier for people to come and go and donate bandwidth with torrents.

Hi there fella,

Yeah I dumped the 'current' folder from that one about a month ago, but I wouldn't mind an rsync. I know not a huge amount gets ported / compiled these days but it's still nice to be up-to-date. I'll try and get the rest from SDF (which always reminds of the SDF from Robotech :D ... Or for the purist there is always Macross 'Super Dimensional Fortress') and set up nekosync. Haven't looked at the nekosync script in ages but I think Stuart has a copy on Github.

I know another forum member has a nice snapshot, dexter or diegel, can't remember. I'll give it a go later tonight.

Actually, I'm hoping there is a version of Realplayer about somewhere, I have the Robotech series on DVD and a realplayer version from around 1999. Wouldn't mind dumping them on my Octane for occasional viewing material...together with my other random anime. Could do with watching Serial Experiments Lain again 8-)
