IRIX 6.5.22 Remote Install (?)

Unread postby danamon2002 » Fri Jan 19, 2018 2:11 pm

I'm new to the SGI community and grabbed an Indigo 2 xZ off of eBay for a pretty good price! It currently has IRIX 6.5 installed, but I want 6.5.22 for the use of nekoware and all it has to offer. I know you can perform a remote install from a local server, but I'm not sure exactly how.

I have a Raspberry Pi hooked up via Ethernet, and I can access the server I made on it no problem with the I2. However, I have no knowledge on how to install IRIX since I'm new to it... Any useful tips/guides that could help me pull this off? I need to know how to get the files set up on the server and how to install them on the I2. Anything would be useful! Thanks in advance! :D

For a remote install you need a system which can act as an IRIX install server. Usually we employ a second IRIX machine to do the job or resort to linux systems with suitable configurations or even virtual machines but if you want to use the Raspberry PI for this purpose, it should be possible with either the installation of separate remote services like bootp/tftp and rsh access or install docker and use a docker image i wrote for this, see:

Unfortunately the virtual machine solutions DINA and are not possible because there is no VMPlayer or virtualbox support for your Pi
