Thanks guys.

This is too bad. Since I only wanted to have some fun and install Maya on it.
Being a 3d kinda guy an' all.

Guess I'll be looking for a new (old) HD.

Thanks again for all your great help and quick responses!!! :D

I'm just fooling around with not nearly a slice of knowledge.
Looking up commands and trying them.

What might be the exact HD I should be looking for?

This isn't a simple Windows machine I'm afraid, you have a learning curve to overcome.

You only have one physical 'HD' so unless another external drive was mounted, that's your lot.

So I suggest you type "cat /etc/fstab" and check if it tried to mount anything else. Also, lets try the original suggestion "cat /etc/resolv.conf"

Excluding any quotes.

I'm NOT a windows guy. I'm a mac man! (Graphic Designer)

I tried your suggestions and got this output:

Well that rules out any other drives.

Also lack of DNS resolvers explains a bit of slowness, but why no resolv? Is this a new install? What's the history in this machine?

Well, I don't know about the history of the install nor of the machine.
I bought it on Marktplaats, the dutch Ebay. And it came with the system installed.
I just remember it working fine until I managed to f*ck up a file. After that it started acting up..
I guess it was some kind of init config or boot file...

Sorry..

Morning hansolo15,

Can you type "hinv" and post the output here (when logged on).
