Looking for the src of "ss", an old spreadsheet

Unread postby cesss » Fri Dec 08, 2017 3:14 pm

Hi!

I'm looking for the source code of the "ss" spreadsheet. It's a derived work from the "sc" spreadsheet (whose source code is easily available in the net, even uploaded to GitHub.

The reason why I'm looking for it is that, from what I have read, it can output "sc" spreadsheets as either TeX or nroff documents, which seems pretty cool to me.

The Wayback machine has a backup of the personal page where this software was available, but, as usual, it doesn't keep a copy of the "tar.gz", only the README.

BTW, you can read the README here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20030820090 ... 3.3.README

Do you happen to keep a copy of this software, even if it's a version older than 1.3.3?

I bet Tom Dickey's still got the source, he never deletes anything. You can contact him at http://invisible-island.net/

The sources for 1.2 beta are available in a couple of places:
Both of those are unpacked source directories, so you'll have to download file-by-file.

Sources for 1.2 beta and 1.3.1 are also available from ftp://ftp.cs.uni-sb.de/utils/ as .tgz packages.

I don't know if those versions have the features you're looking for, but poking around their respective sites might turn up more than what I've found. Plus they all seem to be reputable open-source archives rather than random sites on the Internet.

FWIW, version 1.3.3 was included in FreeBSD 3.4-RELEASE to (at least) 4.9-RELEASE. I can find binaries for it at http://ftp-archive.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD-Archive/ports/i386/packages-3.4-release/math/ss-1.3.3.tgz. Maybe one of the resident FreeBSD experts can locate the corresponding sources in the FreeBSD archives.
